FEA Analysis - Lower Suspension Arm

Lower Suspension Arm is a component of a automotive suspension system. As a vehicle move, the suspension undergoes different loads repeatedly. Although the load is not exceeding the mechanical limit of the material, repeating application of load will cause fatigue failure.

Objective

The objective of this project is to analyze the fatigue life of lower suspension arm due to 3 different strain history load.

Methodology

SolidWorks is used in the modelling of lower suspension arm and ANSYS is used in rendering the mesh model and performing the FEA analysis. 3 Strain history which is bracket, suspension and transmission is applied on the lower suspension arm as well as fix support. It is found that the maximum life due to bracket load is 3.290e6 cycle, maximum life due to suspension load is 30.303e6 cycle and maximum life due to transmission load is 15.625e6 cycle.
