Leak Checker is a device that check if a pneumatic system has a leakage. The checker operate by placing it at one end and cover the other end. The checker will create a vacuum on the system which the flow meter will indicate zero air flow. If leakage is present, the flow meter will not have zero reading.
Objective
The objective of this project is to design a leak tester that can be used to analyze leakage of pneumatic system. The severity of the leakage is to be analyzed by using the tester.
Methodology
The tester consist of compressed air regulator, vacuum regulator, vacuum ejector, vacuum pressure meter, three flowmeter with different range and sensitivity as well as valve and a Y-junction. Vacuum is created by vacuum ejector when compressed air is fed and the valve is closed. At this state, vacuum will be created to the test machine when the tester is connected. If there is no leakage, the reading of flowmeter will decrease to zero. The severity of leakage is shown on the flowmeter. When the test is completed, the valve is opened, forcing the surrounding air to be fed into the tester and release the machine.
