FEA Analysis - Hyperelastic Coupon

Hyperelastic material is a perfectly elastic material that does not obey Hooke's Law but having a non-Linear, S-shaped stress-strain behavior. This research analyze the mechanical property of a new material known as Poly(octanediol-co-dodecanedioate-co-citrate-co-itaconate) (PODCI) that is applicable in biomaterial application. There is also two different grades of PODCI known as PODC25I25 and PODC30I20.

Objective

The objective of this research is to analyze the mechanical behavior of a new material known as PODCI. The best hyperelastic model that describe the material is identified and different configuration of PODCI is tested to identify the best configuration.

Methodology

FEMAP is used to model the coupon specimen and generate the mesh model while MARC is used to perform the FEA analysis. Convergence study is first performed on the generated mesh model to identify the most optimum mesh model for the analysis. The mesh model is then assigned with material property of PODCI fitted in different hyperelastic model. The best hyperelastic model found is Ogden Model. By using Ogden Model, different configuration of PODCI is then analyzed.

Achievement

This research is also published and presented in Composite Sciences and Technology International Conference (COMSAT) 2022 that is held on 22nd August 2022.
